Honestly – Please Don’t Give Me a Survey to Find Out if I Qualify for a Survey

Good morning all,

I have a bit of a rant about a lot of surveys I have been trying to do recently. I feel as though I am giving away valuable information without being remunerated. Have you ever tried to complete a survey and are pre-screened by a number of qualifying questions? Well, I have nothing against that but when the pre-screening lasts for almost 10 minutes I think it’s a pi** take. Sorry, I’m human. I was told to be completely honest on this blog about my experiences so I will be. How do we know that the pre-screening information is not used for research purposes? I was asked more than 10 questions about the supermarkets I used and even went as far as being asked to identify the closest Tesco I last visited. Now, if that information is not of use to the research companies then I don’t know what is. Rant over Well, almost!

As you all will know, I am on holiday in Kenya. Most of the time I have no problems doing surveys here but I have noticed than on a lot of survey sites I am being told I am not in the UK therefore I cannot carry out a survey. There should be a qualifying piece of software to find out if you are a UK resident but have just travelled for a few days rather than just going by my IP address. What about the MAC address of the laptop I’ve been using to carry out surveys all over the world? Surely my IP address could be stored on a database somewhere and cross checked each time I try to complete a survey. For those who like to travel perhaps we could put pressure on some of the survey panels to consider this issue as we may find ourselves blocked from doing a lot of valuable surveys and potentially missing that valuable extra income most welcome after a costly holiday. Rant truly over.

I understand that snow came back to the UK since I’ve been in the sun so I’m not ashamed of saying that I don’t miss London yet as I am adorned with nothing but shorts. Memories of wearing my suit, tie, coat, scarf, gloves and Cossack hat seem to be light years away. I am not even thinking about the flight back on the 23rd. In fact, I’m trying to slow down time hoping that I will find spring on my way back.

For now I’ll keep doing my surveys and drinking Tusker. Strangely enough, I did two surveys last night asking me about how much I drink and do I drink more under stress. Well, I am a regular drinker and enjoy it. However, when I’m stressed out alcohol of any kind is the furthest thing from my mind. I like to drink when I’m in a good mood not when I’m down. Make of it what you will.

As for me, I must go now so keep up the search for bigger and better surveys.

Bye for now

Jay
